The people behind the worms...
My name is Callie.
I am first a mother, second a nurse, and rather unknowingly and unintentionally, have become a worm enthusiast.
Our journey began five years ago when we created a home in our kitchen for 500 "squirmy wormies" as an introduction to vermicomposting.
From that grew an abundance of worms, lots of worm POOP (castings) and two young inquisitive minds (children, not worms) with an admiration for creatures, small but mighty, and a vested interest and sense of responsibility for the environment in which they live.
From this small scale learning adventure that started in our kitchen, has evolved a desire to engage our community, starting with more young minds (or old), in the world and impact of vermicomposting.
Callie ran six workshops for all six of our Kindergarten classes and every single educator was beyond impressed! She has so much knowledge to share about the magic and wonders of worms and delivers it in such a fun and engaging way, you would think she was an educator! The kids came away with so much knowledge and absolutely loved getting their hands on so many little worms. The fun has continued into the classroom, being "worm parents" with our composting bins, and they are enjoying taking care of (and playing with!) the worms as class pets. We are looking forward to using the worm castings in our school's vegetable garden as soon as we can!
Thank you Callie for such a fun and unique learning experience for our students.
We highly recommend Our Little Wormery to any classrooms full of students who are interested in learning more about worms!
Thank you for coming to visit! I LOVED how hands on everything was for the class. They really enjoyed it. I really appreciated that you met the students where they were and worked with them. It was great! I've been singing your praise to everyone at school!
We had such a great time meeting you and learning about our new worm babies! Our students were so happy to hear that we actually get to keep them . (I guess they thought we had to give them back..haha!)
You have an amazing presence and I felt so comfortable letting you lead the learning! I truly would have thought you had a teaching background. Thank you for your patience and humour and flexibility!
