Nature creates no waste

Vermicomposting

A big fancy word for -

The use of earthworms to convert organic waste into fertilizer

Why have worms in the classroom?

Well, why not?

We don't smell or attract bugs.

We are a low maintenance class pet that can tolerate a high level of negligence.

We can compost indoors all year round.

We provide a front row seat to Mother Nature's recycling process in action.

And, we have so much to teach by empowering kids to love the natural world and develop a sense of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Even Charles Darwin was enamored by the humble earthworm and found it to be a fascinating subject of investigation and seemingly wacky experiments!
